“Gross” starts young

Breakfast table conversations are never dull these days. Katherine has been treating us to discourses on her dreams, Christmas list and plans for our car when she grows up. She has also been asking for money. We’re wondering if she has early-onset puberty.

Anyway, yesterday’s gem (which started with mundane day-planning stuff) ultimately became something rather like this:

Katherine: Here you go, Mommy. Put this in the garbage please.

Me: Okay. (Innocently holding out hand without looking at what was being deposited. Very small item received.)

What is this?!?!

K: It’s gunk. Put it in the garbage.

Me: Gunk?

K: Yes, gunk.

Me: Where did this gunk come from?

K: My nose.
